Leg-spinner Thomas Kaber will return to MI Cape Town for Betway SA20 Season 4 after Tabraiz Shamsi was ruled out due to “personal reasons”.

Kaber has been part of the MI Cape Town squad for the past two seasons, including the title winning run in 2025.

The 33-year-old has primarily been back-up to first-choice spinners Rashid Khan and George Linde but has been excellent whenever called upon.

Kaber has played nine matches across the two seasons, claiming 10 wickets at the impressive average of 16.10 and economy of 8.05.

Former Proteas wrist-spinner Shamsi has previously played for Paarl Royals in the first two seasons before being traded to Joburg Super Kings for Season 3 and was expected to make a big impact at Newlands after being picked up at the auction.

MI Cape Town also have experienced off-spinner Dane Piedt as part of their spin bowling stocks.

The defending champions have kept the majority of their title-winning squad either through retention or purchases at the auction and Kaber now adds to the continuity which coach Robin Peterson has emphasised to gain further success.
