The ICC has named Muhammad Waseem of the UAE and Chloe Tryon of South Africa as the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for May 2025, recognizing their outstanding performances in ODIs and T20Is.
Waseem wins ICC Men’s Player of the Month for second time
UAE captain Muhammad Waseem secured his second ICC Player of the Month award after an impressive run of form during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 and a home T20I series against Bangladesh.
Waseem scored 169 runs in five ODIs batting in the middle order and was named Player of the Series in the T20Is against Bangladesh, which UAE won 2-1. Opening the batting, he struck scores of 54 and 82 in the first two matches in Sharjah.
He edged out Scotland’s Brendon McMullen and the USA’s Milind Kumar for the men’s award.
“The month of May brought us a historic series win over Bangladesh in Sharjah,” said Waseem. “The victory indicates the growth of UAE cricket and the depth of talent in the country.”
Chloe Tryon claims maiden ICC Women’s Player of the Month award
Chloe Tryon played a key role in South Africa’s success during the Sri Lanka ODI Tri-Series, where she scored 176 runs at a strike rate of 131.34 and took six wickets across three matches.
Tryon’s performance included scores of 67 vs India, 35 and 74 vs Sri Lanka, and a five-wicket haul (5/34) against Sri Lanka, which featured a stunning hat-trick.
She beat out Haley Matthews of the West Indies and Jemimah Rodrigues of India to win her first ICC Player of the Month honour.
“I probably didn’t expect this award, but I see it as a great achievement,” said Tryon. “I’ve been trying to find consistency for a while, so I’m happy that it finally came together in Sri Lanka.”
