As CEO of Cricket Ireland since March 2026, Sarah Keane is driving strategic growth for Irish cricket, prioritizing infrastructure, professional pathways, and the expansion of women’s programs. “We’re cost cutting, making some big decisions around formats, around the game, around what performance looks like,” she said, highlighting her practical approach to evolving the sport.

Her leadership is built on more than two decades at the forefront of Irish sport. Keane served as the first CEO of Swim Ireland from 2004 to 2026, professionalizing the organization, expanding grassroots participation, and establishing high-performance programs that delivered Ireland’s first Olympic swimming medals, including gold and bronze at Paris 2024. “I love being around high performing people and people who are open to feedback and open to doing things differently,” she said, reflecting her collaborative and development-focused philosophy.

From 2017 to 2024, Keane was the first female president of the Olympic Federation of Ireland, where she strengthened governance and athlete representation. She implemented initiatives supporting athlete welfare and professional growth, contributing to Ireland’s record medal performance in Paris 2024. On the importance of representation, she noted, “In order to have a proper voice, you need several people in the room,” underscoring her commitment to gender balance in leadership across sports.

Keane’s perspective is shaped by her own experience as a national-level swimmer and international water polo player, coupled with legal training and executive expertise. She emphasizes adapting leadership to diverse contexts: “Recognizing different approaches can unlock opportunities for all member nations,” she said, reflecting her broader vision for cricket and the value of respecting cultural and organizational differences.

At Cricket Ireland, she is translating this experience into action, guiding the sport through professionalization, community engagement, and sustainable development. Her focus spans both high-performance programs and inclusive pathways, ensuring that men’s and women’s cricket grow in tandem. By applying her track record in governance, athlete development, and strategic planning, Keane is positioning Irish cricket to thrive on the international stage while promoting a culture of inclusivity and long-term growth
