Yorkshire Cricket has announced the official merger of the Yorkshire Cricket Board and the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation, forming a unified organisation committed to using cricket as a force for community change across the county. The merger was completed on 1 July 2025.

This integration brings together the grassroots and recreational game with the Foundation’s community outreach and development work, aligning their shared goal of growing cricket and maximising its social impact across Yorkshire.

Shariq Mumtaz appointed Managing Director of new unified Foundation

Shariq Mumtaz will lead the newly formed Yorkshire Cricket Foundation as Managing Director. Known for his passion for cricket and deep connection to Yorkshire’s communities, Mumtaz brings a vision for delivering real, lasting change through inclusive, community-driven initiatives.

“The Foundation embodies everything I believe in – cricket, community, and creating real opportunities that make a lasting difference,” said Mumtaz. “With the support of our incredible Trustees and dedicated teams, I look forward to building stronger connections with the people we serve.”

New Board of Trustees to guide mission of impact through cricket

The new Board of Trustees will be chaired by Ian Cotterhill and includes John Jackson, Jane Ellison, Varinder Rehal, Jo Clarke, Steve Hartley, Parveen Malik, Alan Birkinshaw, and Robert Burton. The Board will guide the Foundation’s mission of changing lives through cricket, especially in underrepresented and underserved communities.

“As a unified Foundation, we’re ready to do more, reach further, and create deeper impact,” said Cotterhill. “Together with our team, volunteers, clubs, leagues, and partners, we’re committed to changing lives through cricket.”

Merger strengthens shared values and long-term community legacy

The merger maintains the core values of Yorkshire Cricket, now central to the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation’s work:

  • Go for glory – Be ambitious, define goals together, and take accountability.
  • Think big – Unite around shared goals, challenge thinking, and support one another.
  • Live the spirit of cricket – Be bold, courageous, and unafraid to do things differently.

These values will shape future programmes and initiatives across Yorkshire, ensuring the sport continues to provide greater opportunities, stronger communities, and deeper legacy for everyone who plays, supports, or loves cricket.
