Harare, Zimbabwe — Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has received a timely financial injection as CABS, a major local financial services provider, has committed US$50,000 to support the nation’s domestic cricket structure. The funds will go directly to the five provincial teams competing in Zimbabwe’s top-tier tournaments.
According to a release from ZC, the direct-to-team sponsorship model will benefit the Eagles, Rhinos, Tuskers, Mountaineers, and Southern Rocks, who participate in the Logan Cup, Pro50 Championship, and domestic T20 leagues.
Sponsorship aims to strengthen governance and talent development
The funding will help provincial teams invest in key operational areas, including coaching, player welfare, and youth development. ZC highlighted that this model is designed to improve financial transparency and support stronger budgeting and accountability across its domestic system.
“We are grateful to CABS for coming on board as a valued partner in our domestic cricket journey,” said ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “This kind of corporate support plays an important role in strengthening the game’s foundation and enabling long-term growth.”
“For our provincial teams, it means greater stability and the ability to invest more consistently in key areas such as player welfare, coaching and talent development—factors that are essential to building a stronger pipeline for the future of Zimbabwean cricket.”
CABS renews long-term cricket commitment
The sponsorship marks a continuation of CABS’ two-decade relationship with Zimbabwean cricket, which began in 2004 with support for domestic T20 tournaments. Over the years, CABS has remained involved in grassroots initiatives aimed at nurturing homegrown talent.
CABS Managing Director Mehluli Mpofu said the sponsorship represents more than financial backing. “This sponsorship is more than support for cricket—it is a commitment to the dreams of Zimbabwe’s young people,” he stated. “By investing in domestic cricket, we are answering their call, building platforms for growth and helping shape a future where every young Zimbabwean has a chance to shine.”
Support arrives amid packed international schedule
The investment comes at a crucial time, as Zimbabwe’s national cricket team is in the midst of one of its busiest calendars in years. The Chevrons have already played seven Test matches in 2025 and recently hosted a T20I tri-series featuring South Africa and New Zealand.
Zimbabwe is also preparing to host New Zealand for a two-match Test series beginning July 30. As the national side seeks to reassert itself on the global stage, the CABS sponsorship is expected to strengthen the domestic pipeline by offering provincial teams more stability and development resources.
With this financial boost, Zimbabwe Cricket is taking a significant step toward building a sustainable, competitive, and well-supported domestic cricket ecosystem.
