14-year-old Indian sensation sets new U19 records in England tour
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has emerged as the breakout star of the India U19 vs England U19 Youth ODI 2025 series, finishing as the top run-scorer with an astonishing 355 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 174.01.
The 14-year-old prodigy was a class apart, averaging 71.00 across the series and finishing 75 runs ahead of England’s Thomas Rew, the second-highest scorer. His tally included a record-breaking century and an eye-watering 29 sixes—more than the combined sixes hit by the next six highest scorers in the series.
Consistent brilliance and explosive impact
Vaibhav’s individual scores—48, 45, 86, 143, and 33—showcase both consistency and game-changing explosiveness. His 143 in the fourth Youth ODI was a historic knock: the fastest century in U19 men’s ODI history and made him the youngest centurion ever in the format.
He also delivered two other standout performances: a 19-ball 48 in the first match and a 31-ball 86 in the third—both vital to India’s 3-2 series win over England.
IPL breakout and rising global profile
Vaibhav’s reputation was already on the rise after his record-shattering performance for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. At just 14 years and 23 days, he became the youngest IPL player and then the youngest IPL centurion, slamming a 35-ball 100 against Gujarat Titans.
That knock set the record for the fastest IPL century by an Indian and is the second-fastest overall, behind only Chris Gayle.
Next up: Youth Test series in England
Vaibhav will now gear up for the India U19 vs England U19 Youth Test series, starting July 12 in Beckenham and Chelmsford. With his ODI heroics, all eyes will be on how he adapts to the longer format.
“He’s rewriting the rules of youth cricket. His maturity and striking power at this age are almost unheard of,” said a coach close to the India U19 setup.
As the cricketing world watches closely, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to blaze a historic trail as one of the sport’s most exciting young prospects.
