Litchfield recognised as NSW Country Female Player of the Season

Sydney Thunder legend Rene Farrell has won her first Belinda Clark Medal as the NSW Breakers Player of the Year in her retirement season.

The 33-year-old was also named the Women’s National Cricket League Player of the Season for NSW.

Farrell farewelled the Breakers with 21 wickets at an average of 13.1, including season best figures of 4-33 from 10 overs in the WNCL Final won by Western Australia at North Sydney Oval.

She retired from the game having taken 114 wickets in 101 matches for Australia across T20, One-Day and Test cricket, including an Ashes hat-trick.

Upon finishing her final game for Thunder in December, the accurate right-arm seamer was the leading Thunder wicket taker overall with 79 scalps to her name at an average of 20.17.

Meanwhile, after a sensational debut season in the WNCL and WBBL, 16-year-old Phoebe Litchfield received the Alex Blackwell Award as NSW Country Female Player of the Season.

Litchfield captured the attention of the Australian cricket public in October when her unbeaten 52 guided the Thunder to victory over eventual champions Brisbane Heat at North Sydney Oval.

She built on that experience, scoring 252 runs at 42 during her first WNCL campaign.
