Home-grown all-rounder Mitchell Owen has penned his name on a Hobart Hurricanes contract.

Owen, who received a rookie contract with the Tasmanian Tigers earlier this year, will be in purple for the next two seasons. The 19-year-old marks another of a number of signings yet to come for the Hurricanes this year.

Hobart Hurricanes Head Coach Adam Griffith is excited to add some new young talent to the line-up.

“We are excited to have Mitch with the Hurricanes on a full contract this year”, said Griffith. “He is a young talented player who was a rookie with the Hurricanes last year and has earned the right to move up to a full contract with his performances over the last 12 months.”

“Mitch is someone who will continue to improve his game with both the bat and ball, and have an impact on our program not only this year but in years to come.”

“Being in the program full time now will also give him the opportunity to learn from some of the best players in the competition, and we look forward to seeing what he can do.”

Hobart Hurricanes General Manager Scott Barnes highlighted the importance of Tasmania’s Team having Tasmanian talent.

“Mitch’s journey of playing at New Town, the Tasmanian Tigers and now the Hobart Hurricanes is a young cricketer’s dream”, said Barnes. “It’s stories like this that inspire the next generation of players to pick up a bat and ball and play through the summer.”

“We’re thrilled to have Mitch join the team and look forward to see his abilities with the white ball in the coming months.”
