Thunder to play five matches in Sydney

Sydney Thunder captain Callum Ferguson said he was “excited” by his team playing what could be crucial matches in front of a “sea of green” at Sydney Showground Stadium during this summer’s KFC Big Bash League season.

The finalised draw for BBL|10 was released today, and it provides Thunder’s passionate army of Members and fans with four fantastic opportunities to cheer their team on at Sydney Showground Stadium during the run into the finals, starting with a blockbuster Sydney Smash on 13 January 2021.

All Thunder Members will get priority access to BBL|10 tickets plus a 20% discount. Memberships start from $40 and offer access to a host of new benefits and exclusive discounts. View all packages here.

“Our players get a real buzz from playing in front of the sea of green at Sydney Showground Stadium,” said Ferguson. “During my time at the club it’s always been a huge lift for the players; it’s the passion our Members and fans show at home ground matches which gives the team an extra three or four percent on the night.

“It’s a huge advantage and hopefully it will give us momentum into the finals if we’re playing good cricket in the lead-up to that.”

Coach Shane Bond also welcomed the draw, saying playing the team’s opening five matches in Thunder Nation territory – Canberra’s Manuka Oval – and finishing with four of its five final regular season games at Sydney Showground Stadium was a great result.

“Sydney Thunder is always a tough team to beat on our home ground, so to start off in Canberra and to then have four games at Sydney Showground Stadium at the back end of the competition – and it could be the crunch time – is tremendous,” said Bond.

The BBL|10 draw was created in consultation with governments, state and territory associations, clubs and broadcast partners and places the health and safety of all participants and the broader community as the top priority.

The completed schedule ensures all clubs will host matches in their home city assuming border restrictions and the public health situation allow.
