Cricket South Africa’s Members’ Council and the Interim Board has today learnt with shock of the passing of Ben Dladla, the President of the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union (KZNCU).

CSA sends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, the KZNCU and the entire cricket community.

Dladla had served on CSA’s highest decision-making Members’ Council for two years after he had first joined KZNCU as vice-president in 2013, following years of service with the Durban and Districts Cricket Union. He later rose to be elected to the position of President in 2018.

During Ben Dladla’s tenure the KZNCU franchise – the Hollywoodbets Dolphins, won the Momentum One Day Cup and the list of accolades included the KZN Coastal team’s becoming the joint winners of the Provincial 3-Day Cup and thus sharing the honours with Easterns Cricket.

Dladla was one of the early pioneers of change and transformation in the KZNCU and his presidency did not only bring about the transformation of cricket but it also saw the growth in grassroots cricket development in KwaZulu-Natal. These milestones also coincided with a conscious decision to ensure that there was proper representation of the previously excluded groupings in cricket and including the drive to diversify cricket and to make cricket a sport of choice for many diverse young people in KwaZulu-Natal.

“Mr Dladla’s sad and untimely passing is without a doubt, a loss to cricket development as well as the goal and the efforts to reignite cricket and put cricket’s reputation back on the mends. He was a true gentleman who stood for truth and honesty. His passing has indeed shocked the cricketing community and it is particularly a great loss to Cricket South Africa. The many contributions he has made will be sorely missed,” said CSA’s Members’ Council Acting President, Mr Rihan Richards.

Condolences to his family, the KZNCU and the multitudes of admirers who gained handsomely from his well of wisdom.
