The Sydney Sixers will play the Perth Scorchers in honour of youth cancer patients on Saturday, continuing a proud association with the Sony Foundation Australia.

The Sixers match against the Scorchers in Canberra is one of the season’s most special for the Sixers squad playing in honour of the Sony Foundation Australia’s You Can Champs.

The players will wear special jerseys – with words of inspiration provided by a youth cancer patient – to raise funds and awareness in the community of the battle these young people face, and to show them that the Sydney Sixers community back them.

Fans can donate or bid in the post game player jersey auction at www.sonyfoundation.org/sydneysixers.

The ‘Sixers Can, You Can’ Campaign continues the club’s commitment to helping regional cancer patients with desperately needed emergency accommodation that began in BBL|01.

Seeking to turn around their 86-run loss to the Scorchers in Perth, the Sixers play the men from the West at Manuka Oval, a ground that six years ago saw both teams create the most thrilling BBL Final to date.

In Brett Lee’s last professional match, the Scorchers won that BBL|04 Final on the final ball.

v. Perth Scorchers

17 matches. 6 wins, 11 losses (8 of the last 11 BBL matches between the two teams have been won by the chasing side)

Courtesy of their Sydney Smash victory over the Thunder, in a rain affected match on Wednesday night, the Sixers sit six points clear at the top of the BBL|10 table.

Perth is third and looking for six wins in a row.

Justin Avendano made his Sixers return in the Smash and said the last loss to the Scorchers was just one to forget.

“(After that loss), in the meeting, the head coach Greg Shipperd said ‘let’s just scrap that game, put it in the bin. Every year a team has one of those performances’,” the 27-year-old said.

The 18-player squad will be trimmed to 13 players and the final 11 announced at the bat flip.

Of this squad, only Nick Bertus and Tom Rogers are yet to make their Sixers debut.
