England legend joins PCA as Non-Executive Director.

The PCA has today announced that Darren Gough will be joining the Association’s Board as Non-Executive Director.

Gough, 50, will be the most recent addition to the decision-making body that is chaired by Julian Metherell.

During a playing career spanning 19 years and 700 professional appearances, Gough claimed 1,486 wickets, including 467 for his country. He brings a wealth of cricketing experience to the role of Non-Executive Director, to compliment that of fellow Non-Executive Director Isa Guha who played for her country on 113 occasions.

Since retiring in 2008, Gough has forged a successful career in the media, including co-presenting the talkSPORT drive-time show.

He has also worked with England’s seam bowlers on a short-term consultancy basis during their 2019 tour of New Zealand, and is currently an ambassador for the Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary, based in South Africa.

In 2020, Gough was awarded an MBE for services to cricket and charity in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Speaking to the PCA, new Non-Executive Director, Gough, said: “Cricket has been my life, and I think the last 12 years in particular have really helped me to understand the game from the outside. To be on the PCA Board as a Non-Executive Director is really exciting.

“I’ll be able to bring considerable playing experience to the role, both from a domestic and international perspective, and I’m really keen to share that and help all of our members, male and female. It’s really important that players continue to bring their issues to the Board, so we can discuss them and produce good outcomes for all PCA members moving forward.”

PCA Non-Executive Chair, Metherell, said: “We are excited to welcome Darren on to the PCA Board. He brings a wealth of experience from a distinguished playing career and his subsequent roles as an international coach and in the media. The Board was highly impressed with his knowledge, enthusiasm and deep understanding of the issues and challenges that PCA members face, and he will therefore be a valued addition to the PCA Board moving forward.”

PCA Chair of the Players’ Committee Harris, said: “We’re really pleased to be welcoming someone of Darren’s standing onto the PCA Board at what is such an important time for the game in this country.

“It’s critical that the PCA Board has a comprehensive understanding of player issues, and bringing in someone of Darren’s experience will only be of benefit to professional cricketers in England and Wales.”
