Cricket South Africa (CSA) has congratulated the Proteas on winning their five-match T20 International Series against the West Indies.

Temba Bavuma’s men clinched the series 3-2 when they won the final match by 25 runs at the Granada National Sports Stadium on Saturday.

“Congratulations to Temba, head coach Mark Boucher and all the players and support staff for this outstanding success against the current world champions in the T20 format,” commented CSA Acting Chief Executive Pholetsi Moseki. “What a wonderful start Temba has made to his captaincy career in white ball cricket.

“Nothing breeds confidence like success and we look forward to their gaining further momentum when they head to Ireland for the next leg of their tour with the end goal of the ICC T20 World Cup towards the end of this year.

“This achievement follows the similar one of the Test squad also under new leadership in the form of Dean Elgar and augurs well for our long-term target of getting the Proteas back into the top three across all formats of the international game.

“Once again, sport is proving itself to be a much-needed catalyst to lift the national mood at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic is causing so much hardship, anguish and anxiety to our people,” concluded Mr Moseki.

“Well done to our Proteas!” commented CSA Board chair Lawson Naidoo. “They are a shining light in taking cricket forward and I am sure they will be an inspiration to all of us to put cricket back on the right path in all our areas of responsibility.

“The new era has dawned!”
