Cricket Canada’s President Rashpal Bajwa has been elected to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC). Bajwa’s election as one of the Committee’s three Associate Member representatives was confirmed on July 24 following an online ballot.
Cricket Canada’s Rashpal Bajwa, together with Mubashshir Usmani of the Emirates Cricket Board will join Botswana Cricket Association’s Sumod Damodar, who was re-elected to serve another two-year term, on the CEC. The three candidates received the highest number of votes from the Associate Member electorate and will be part of the CEC through until the end of the 2023 ICC Annual Conference.
The ICC CEC membership is comprised of a representative appointed by each Full Member, who shall be the Full Member’s Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer or senior cricket administrator; as well as three additional members elected by the Voting-Associate Members and the Regional Representatives. The Committee is mandated to assist and advise the ICC Board in relation to the operational, financial, commercial and management matters relating to the sport of cricket. In addition to its advisory role the CEC, however, also exercises decision making powers in several areas as follows: (a) the monitoring and application of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel; (b) policies and regulations in relation to illegal bowling actions; (c) the monitoring and application of the Standard Playing Conditions including those for ICC events; (d) the monitoring and application of the regulations relating to international venues, pitch monitoring, clothing and equipment, and other rules and/or regulations relating to the playing and/or integrity of the game; (e) operational issues relating to, or arising from, ICC events.
Born in Jalandhar, Rashpal Bajwa immigrated to Canada in 1996 after completing his Bachelors Degree in Engineering. He completed his certification in aircraft maintenance engineering from BCIT and now manages his own 15+ employees business.
A sports junkie since birth, Rashpal has played all major sports including cricket. His involvement with Cricket Canada began in 1997 soon after he had become active as a player. In 2008 he was elected to the BCMCL League as a Delegate. Two years later, in 2010 he became the BCMCL’s Vice President. By the following year, 2011, Rashpal had become Cricket BC’s 2nd Vice President. In 2013, he was elected as Cricket BC President. His outstanding performance in that role led to his 2016 election as Cricket Canada’s Vice President.
