The build-up to KFC BBL|11 is in full swing with the Melbourne Stars today announcing the signing of experienced top order batsman Joe Burns to their roster.

In a major coup for the Stars, the 31-year-old right hand batsman has been lured to Team Green after nine seasons with the Brisbane Heat, signing with the Stars until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Internationally capped Burns has an impressive BBL record, scoring 1192 runs with a strike rate of 123.52 in his 59 BBL matches.

Burns said he was thrilled to commit his future to the Melbourne Stars.

“It was obviously a difficult decision leaving the Heat after being there for so long, however I am ready for a new challenge at the Stars,” Burns said.

“The Melbourne Stars have been a very strong team over the years and I’m excited to join the team and I can’t wait to get stuck into training with my new teammates.”

Melbourne Stars BBL Head Coach David Hussey welcomed the news.

“We are excited to welcome Joe to our squad for the next three seasons, especially given the experience and batting depth he adds to the squad,” Hussey said.

“We are building a strong group with a lot of star power so hopefully we can play in front of our home fans and make it a special summer.”

With KFC BBL|11 set to be one of the biggest instalments yet, Melbourne Stars today officially launched their membership campaign for the 2021/22 season.

Melbourne Stars Interim General Manager Blair Crouch said he was excited to welcome fans back to games this summer.

“I’d like to welcome Joe Burns to the Stars and I know our members and fans will be looking forward to seeing him in action this summer. This season presents us with a great opportunity to welcome the Stars faithful back to the MCG and CitiPower Centre to watch our team put on a fantastic performance,” Crouch said.

Stars fans will have access to some of the most exciting cricket this summer, with adult full memberships – which includes access to all Stars WBBL and BBL matches across Victoria – available from just $140.

There are options for everyone, with adult memberships from $25.

Purchasing a Melbourne Stars membership is the best way to gain access to the CitiPower Centre match against the Perth Scorchers on 2 January.

Members will also receive exclusive behind the scenes content, discounts on merchandise and priority ticketing access for the BBL|11 finals.
