Young gun Davies wants a ‘sea of green’ when Thunder return to Sydney Showground Stadium

Big-hitting Ollie Davies, who stole the show last summer as one of the KFC Big Bash League’s hottest rookies, is urging Sydney Thunder fans to turn their two home grounds into a ‘sea of green’ throughout BBL|11.

Tickets to Sydney Showground Stadium (Ticketmaster) and Canberra’s Manuka Oval (Ticketek) go on sale today (Thursday 11 November) at 3pm.

Family friendly ticket prices for the nation’s most exciting summer fun begin at $5 for children; concessions from $15; adults from $25, and just $50 for families.

Despite spending their entire KFC BBL|10 campaign on the road, Thunder played an exciting brand of cricket to qualify for the finals. The season also heralded the arrival of Davies and Thunder’s 19-year-old spin bowler, Tanveer Sangha, who finished the summer with 21 wickets.

Davies, who turned 21 last month, became an instant hero to thousands of children across the nation when he lit up Manuka Oval by smashing five consecutive sixes against the Melbourne Renegades. He said he was excited by the prospect of taking strike for the first time in his burgeoning career at Thunder Nation’s Sydney Showground Stadium.

“It was very exciting to play matches at Manuka last summer, the crowd was amazing… to have the support I did from the locals was incredible because I really wasn’t expecting that,” said Davies.

“It excites me to think we’re playing at Sydney Showground Stadium this summer. I’ve heard from all the players who’ve played there that it’s a stadium with a tremendous atmosphere, an exciting one which inspires everyone.

“I’ve been told to expect to be blown away by the ‘sea of green’ – that’s the fans in the stands wearing their Thunder gear – which greets the players when they run onto the field. I just can’t wait to experience it!”

Davies said he recommended that parents take their children to watch the games live to allow them to enjoy the thrill of an exciting format which encourages plenty of dash and dare. He added that it could even inspire the children to throw themselves into a sport which has plenty of benefits, including making friends, developing co-ordination, being part of a team, and even forming a life-long passion.

“BBL matches are exciting for young fans because, being such a short form of the game, the players take more risks,” he said. “That can result in batters hitting big sixes, fielders taking spectacular catches, and bowlers taking some great wickets.”
