Cricket Namibia: 2021 the fairy tale year!

Must Read

From the middle of October 2021, we sat glued to our seats – eyes focused on the television sets and other digital platforms…they were determined to accomplish anything they set out to do; they were ably led by arguably one of the most calm and classy captains at the ‘ICC Big Dance,’ in the UAE and Oman.  Eagles – you won the hearts of so many – your demeanour on and off the field was a joy to behold. Congratulations on your success and long may it continue.

Whilst we ‘wax lyrical’ about the Eagles, we must not overlook the other sides – the Women and the U19 team.

The women’s side were runners up at the ICC tournament in Botswana and runners up at the Kwibuka T20 Tournament In Rwanda. The team has grown from strength to strength and has the will and belief to succeed.  The Namibia U19 squad narrowly missed out on a place to the World Cup taking place currently in the West Indies–the future looks bright –no one can doubt that the production line is functioning fully…it will not be long before these teams have their day. Congratulations.

Cricket Namibia will make history when they host the Cricket World Cup along with South Africa and Zimbabwe in 2027.

The ICC is pleased that much work has gone into grassroots development. The growth and focus on women ‘s cricket aligns with the ICC global strategy which is to strengthen, grow and protect cricket. Your efforts at accelerating the growth of the women’s game by getting more people playing and enjoying the game is commendable. In keeping with ICC’s vision, our regional office has placed women’s cricket as a core pillar to invest, strengthen and grow the game among our 19 members.

Our gratitude to the board, well led by Dr Rudi van Vuuren… Rudi I have to say this and put it out there – you should be extremely proud of the CEO Johan and the admin team. Thank you to the admin staff who work tirelessly to ensure that the association continues to do well. They have done a fabulous job.

Have a fantastic evening, all.
