The KNCB recently received the sad news that Member of Merit WP Boers passed away on May 30th. A few years ago, he suffered a brain haemorrhage from which he never really recovered.
“WP” was a household name within the KNCB for many years. He was secretary of the KNCB board, under chairman René van Ierschot, between November 1997 and the autumn of 2006. He was reappointed no less than twice during that period.
When he stepped down in 2006, he was appointed Member of Merit of the union during the Autumn GMM to very loud applause. He was also a member of the Appeals Committee for several years before 1997. From December 2012 to the spring of 2012 he once again fulfilled the role of secretary in the KNCB board, now under chairman Jacques Mulders. In the years that followed, WP also developed into a more than deserving scorer.
He was also very active at his cricket club Bloemendaal, including as a board member. He did a lot of work behind the scenes. He was also a Member of Merit at Bloemendaal.
WP Boers will be remembered by many as an extremely amiable man, who was never afraid to roll up his sleeves, solicited or unsolicited.
