Legends continue support for the grassroots game.

The PCA England Legends, sponsored by Greene King, return to the pitch as they prepare to take on Bramhall CC in their first fixture of a busy 2022 summer this Friday.

Stretching the length of the country, the Legends will play games from Aldershot CC in Hampshire to Settle CC in North Yorkshire. The first complete season since 2019 will see the Legends start their campaign this Friday 10 June with the season due to end on 19 August, with 11 confirmed fixtures and visits to five new clubs.

This year’s squad will be once again captained by Alex Tudor and made up of more than 30 players, including some new faces such as Ian Bell, Rikki Clarke and Jenny Gunn. The Legends programme enables PCA members to stay in contact with each other and continue to enjoy the game they love.

Each club will experience a day with the Legends which typically involves junior training sessions assisted by our team of ex-England stars, followed by an entertaining fundraising lunch and finished with a T20 fixture between the host club’s first XI and the Legends.

This year the Legends will be returning to Wormsley CC for the Festival of Cricket on 29 July. The event is being held in memory of former Kent legend Alan ‘Iggy’ Igglesden who died last November to raise money for the Professional Cricketers’ Trust who looked after him and his family. The day will be rounded off with a T20 match between the Legends and a star-studded select Kent XI.

Greene King IPA continue to sponsor the Legends, a partnership that has enabled more than £800,000 to be raised for local cricket clubs in England and Wales since its inception in 2016. This money is vital for clubs and helps them invest in coaching, improved facilities and more.

There are still dates available towards the end of the summer if you want the Legends to play at your club. Find out how by visiting: https://www.thepca.co.uk/pca-england-legends/.

PCA England Legends captain, Alex Tudor, said: “I’m really looking forward to getting underway again with the PCA England Legends, the first game is always an exciting moment in the season.

“Host clubs raised an amazing £100,000 last year and I’m confident we can far exceed that amount this season. I’m really looking forward to seeing some familiar faces but also some new ones at the five club’s we haven’t visited before.

“We can’t wait to get started against Bramhall on Friday and hopefully it will be a successful season on and off the pitch.”
