Preparing the St George’s Park Cricket Stadium grounds and pitches for a total of 14 Test Match,31 ODIs, four T20 international pitches and a staggering number of domestic matches not out – that is the score after 25 years for Head Curator, Adrian Carter, and ground staff member Monde Ludwabe. The two joined the team at the St George’s Park Cricket Stadium in August 1997.

“This is a feat not many in the modern era of pitch preparation have achieved,” says Eastern Province Cricket (EPC) Chief Executive Officer Eugene Jacobs.

“There have been a number of highlights over the last 25 years, but I think the one that has stood out most is the opportunity to work at Lords and to work with Peter Muzzel as a consultant for the inaugural IPL held in Mumbai in 2008,” says Carter.

Another significant milestone is being celebrated by Zine Mekuto (Assistant Accountant), who has been with EPC for 15 years.

“A keen runner and fitness fanatic, Zine has been a stalwart in the finance department, says Jacobs.

There are also seven staff members celebrating five years with EPC.

They are Dr Mark Williams (Head Mega Sportz), Terance (subs correct) Primo (stadium manager), Monde Nelani (ground staff), Liezel Piedt (operations), Andre du Plessis (coaching); and William Grootboom and Pieter January (both maintenance).

“It takes a great team to stage events at St George’s Park and the current number of long service awards is a testimony to the dedication and commitment from staff in all areas,” says Jacobs.

“It is such a huge honour to say ‘thank you’ to all the staff members who have received Long Service Awards in August.

“Congratulations to everyone and thank you very much for your service to Eastern Province Cricket.

“A special mention must go to Adi and Monde on their 25 years of loyal and dedicated service to the company.

“It is indeed a great honour to pay tribute to these fine gentlemen who worked tirelessly for many years in order that we have world class facilities to play on at St George’s Park.

“Your contributions and hard work are highly valued and appreciated,” he said.
