Bio

Gordon Arthur is a seasoned sports administrator and business executive, currently serving Cricket Scotland as Chief Executive Officer. Arthur was appointed Interim CEO in July 2022 to lead the governing body through the publication of the independent review into racism in Scottish Cricket and to develop a strategy to address the issues raised and implement the recommendations of the report.

Arthur was one of a team of six senior executive officers that planned and delivered the biggest sporting event to come to Scotland: the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. He worked for 6 years from October 2008 to October 2014 as a Chief Communications Officer. He was heavily involved in starting up the business, establishing its governance and the strategic direction of the work. He was also responsible for developing and delivering the Corporate Communications, Brand and Marketing and Engagement and Legacy Programmes, achieving hugely oversubscribed Volunteering and Ticketing Programmes.

Prior to working at Glasgow 2014, Arthur served Roundtable Consultants as a Director. He established Roundtable Consultants in October 2006 to give Board-level advice on stakeholder engagement and reputation management. During this 2-year period, he worked on different assignments including working as Programme Director for the Financial Services Advisory Board to deliver the inaugural Global Financial Services Week held in Scotland from May 26 to 28, 2008.

Arthur is an experienced company director with a record of building and leading teams, particularly in brand management, marketing and corporate communications. He also served UK Athletics and Glasgow Prestwick Airport as a Non-Executive Director for almost a decade.

Arthur spent a major part of his professional career – over 18 years –  at Abrdn plc, Formerly Standard Life Aberdeen plc, a UK-based global investment company headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland. 

Arthur Volunteered for UNICEF UK as a member of the Scotland Advisory Board from January 2015 to December 2019.

Arthur graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biochemistry from University of Aberdeen, where he was the President of the Athletic Association and Captain of the University Hockey Club. He also has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Heriot Watt University.
