The WPCA Board, Management and Staff are saddened to hear of the passing today of Omar Sonday. He was a long-standing Executive Member / Director and Treasurer on the WPCA Board. More recently, he served as a Director on WPCA Property Holdings.

He is fondly remembered for his commitment to cricket and was a great servant to the game and to Western Province cricket.

Ashraf Burns, WPCA President, expressed his condolences to the family and stated that “Omar will be remembered for his dedication in serving Cravenby Cricket Club and WPCA on various committees over the years. He made useful contributions as a WPCA board member and subsequently as a WPCA Propco director, where his services will be sorely missed. You played a great innings Omar! On behalf of the WPCA CEO, Board, Management and staff our prayers and thoughts are with his family during this difficult period.”

A former president of WPCA and current Life Member, Arnold Bloch said “I grew to know Omar very well in the days when I was chairperson of Northerns Goodwood CC and the chairperson of Cravenby CC. We shared many meetings together during the Northern Forum in bringing the former Board and Union Clubs together. He was a committed Club Man and in later years progressed to serve our WPCA. It is with sadness I extend sincere condolences to his Family during this painful period. May his memory be a blessing. RIP Omar”

May the Almighty be pleased with him, forgive him his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdous Ameen. May the Almighty place patience, acceptance and contentment in the hearts of his loved ones Ameen.
