Talented leg-spinner Anesu Mushangwe will be part of the Adelaide Strikers WBBL squad for a second season, after re-signing with the franchise.

In her first season on the Strikers list in WBBL|08, Mushangwe became the first Zimbabwean to play WBBL when she debuted against the Hobart Hurricanes late in the season.

Whilst she only played the one match, she instantly made an impact – taking the catch that secured the opening wicket of the game and then taking her first wicket the following over, setting up a big win for the Strikers that helped them secure their position in the championship-winning finals.

Prior to moving to Australia, an extraordinary tale detailed by cricket.com.au, Mushangwe played 21 Twenty20 Internationals for Zimbabwe, taking 33 wickets at an outstanding economy of just 3.1.

Mushangwe is looking forward to contributing to the squad as they attempt to defend their title.

“I really enjoyed my first season with the Strikers, it was amazing to become part of the group and win a championship,” Mushangwe said.

“I’m excited for next season and the opportunity to be involved in a match on Adelaide Oval for the first time.

“I learned a lot being involved in my first WBBL season and I can’t wait to put that in action.”

Strikers WBBL Assistant Coach Nicole Bolton said the side is delighted to have Mushangwe back for WBBL|09.

“It only took one game to see Anesu’s character and ability last season and she is an important member of our squad,” Bolton said.

“Good spinners are vital in T20 cricket and are looking forward to seeing what ‘Mushy’ can do this summer.”

Mushangwe’s re-signing comes after the Strikers welcomed two internationals to their list in the inaugural WBBL Draft – Laura Wolvaardt and Danielle Gibson.

WBBL tickets are on sale now.
