Cricket South Africa (CSA) has on Tuesday night scooped the Federation of the Year Award, while the Proteas Women’s team were crowned winners of the Ministerial Recognition of Excellence Award at the glittering 18th edition of the Momentum Gsport Awards that were held in Johannesburg.

According to the Awards Citation, which is among the 20 that were open to public nominations, CSA was recognized as, “A sports federation that has made the greatest strides to grow women’s sport commercially and include women in leadership positions.”

This follows CSA’s successful hosting of the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup earlier in the year, kicking off the colloquial Year of Women’s Sport. It is also in recognition of CSA’s conscious input in improving women’s cricket and professionalizing the set-up.

The Proteas Women’s team won the hearts of South Africans by being the first-ever national cricket team to reach the final of an ICC World Cup.

Commenting on the Awards, CSA Chief Executive Officer, Pholetsi Moseki said;

“It is pleasing and humbling that CSA is recognised in this most incredible way. No so long ago we were honoured with the Federation of the Year at the 2022 SA Sport Awards, an ultimate title that any sport organization could hope for.

“This recognition by both our peers and the public vindicates the hard work that CSA has invested in improving women’s cricket in the country and making it a force to be reckoned with. I dedicate this Award to all CSA Staff, Management, the Executive, the Board, Members’ Council, as well as Members and Affiliates for their dedication and commitment to putting women’s cricket firmly on the agenda.

“I also congratulate the Proteas Women’s team for again making us proud by lifting the coveted Ministerial Recognition of Excellence Award. This is affirmation of their pursuit to being trailblazers in their game and enshrining excellence in their craft as a non-negotiable.”
