  • September Teams of the Month announced using PCA MVP Rankings, powered by Argentex
  • Georgia Adams captain women’s side having scored 95.53 points
  • Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson skippers men’s team after earning 162.61 points

The PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings has decided the September Teams of the Month in domestic men’s and women’s cricket.

Using the MVP’s unique algorithm, both teams have been selected by choosing the game’s top performers across all domestic cricket during the month.

The PCA’s MVP system, powered by Argentex, works by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game. Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average. Enabling players to score or lose MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database, the rankings is a true reflection of performance.

The XIs have been selected to create well-balanced sides, so that it’s not just the top 11 cricketers according to the MVP points. This means players such as Tom Scriven are unfortunate to miss out due to the good form of Ed Barnard.

In the men’s game, the month saw the culmination of the LV= Insurance County Championship as Surrey claimed back-to-back titles holding off the challenge of Essex and Hampshire.

Middlesex opener Sam Robson enjoyed a phenomenal month earning 125.73 MVP points, thanks to scoring 355 runs which included two hundreds, alongside taking six wickets. The 34-year-old scored 51 points and won a Match MVP thanks to scoring an unbeaten 105 and taking 4-46 against Nottinghamshire. Against Warwickshire, the right-hander picked up MVP points for a key unbeaten innings of 105 as he carried his bat and Middlesex were dismissed for 251.

MVP points, runs and wickets flowed for Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson as he amassed an incredible 162.61 points in September. Helping bowl his side to victory with figures of 5-44 and then 4-53 against Surrey is an example of why he scored so highly during the month because his impact on the result of that game was crucial.

The 33-year-old also picked up the Overall Domestic MVP award, alongside the LV= Insurance County Championship Player of the Year, following a tightly contested run-in with Simon Harmer who also made the Team of the Month.

In the women’s game, two talented 19-year-olds impressed at the latter stages of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. Sunrisers all-rounder Grace Scrivens and Thunder pace-bowler Olivia Bell amassed 62.96 and 57.84 MVP points respectively. With Scrivens’ impressive with both bat and ball, including a match-winning 105 against The Blaze, it’s clear to see why she’s found a place in the side.

Bell took 14 wickets during September at an average of just 9.3 from her four appearances, picking up a Match MVP award against Western Storm for figures of 3-30 off her 10 overs which included dismissing the top three opposition batters.

Southern Vipers all-rounder Georgia Adams captains the side having won the domestic double by beating The Blaze in the final of the 50-over competition. The 30-year-old also picked up the PCA Women’s Domestic Overall MVP award thanks to another outstanding season.
