Cricket South Africa (CSA) extends its gratitude to President Cyril Ramaphosa for his unwavering support for the Proteas at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and for rallying all South Africans to unite in support of the team as they continue their path to success in India.

The power of sport to unify a nation is undeniable, and the President’s encouragement reaffirms the vital role cricket plays in fostering national pride, diversity, and collective spirit.

As the Proteas prepare to take on New Zealand tomorrow in Pune in a bid to regain the top spot in the Cricket World Cup standings and improve their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals, we encourage all South Africans to show their solidarity with the team.

The power of unity is incredible, and when we rally behind our team, we send a powerful message to the world that we stand as one. Regardless of our differences, we are all bound by our love for cricket and the pride in our national colours.

“As a team, we drew inspiration from the Springboks winning the Rugby World Cup for a fourth time,” said Proteas captain Temba Bavuma. “We celebrated as we gathered around the TV in our team room in the early hours of the morning in India and watched the incredible display of heroics from our Boks. Their success encourages our success.”

Just as the Boks were spurred on by South Africans sending messages of support to the team, the Proteas will be similarly inspired by a groundswell of unwavering support from fans at home. Our cricketers represent the aspirations and dreams of our nation, and it is imperative that we stand behind them as they fly the flag on the world stage. Our cricketers are not just athletes; they are ambassadors of our nation, and they carry our hopes and dreams onto the field.

CSA acknowledges the transformative potential of this World Cup in bringing South Africans from all walks of life together.

CSA Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe said: “The tournament serves as a platform not only for our cricketers to display their exceptional skills, but also for our nation to exemplify unity, resilience, and the powerful spirit of togetherness. We can create lasting memories, celebrate our diversity, and cherish the pride of being South African.”

Whether you are watching from the stadiums in India or from the comfort of your homes, let us be the 12th player on the field, pushing our team to victory. Share your support on social media, organise watch parties, and make our presence felt in every corner of the cricketing world.

Together, we can create a sea of support that will uplift our team and make South Africa proud. Show your solidarity, show your support, and let us make this World Cup a memorable journey for our Proteas!
