The Adelaide Strikers are pleased to announce the signing of experienced left-arm fast bowler David Payne for the upcoming KFC BBL|13 season.

Payne, 32, will be available for all games, including potential Finals, and brings a wealth of experience to the Strikers, having played 153 T20 fixtures globally, taking a total of 188 wickets at an average of 22.83 and best figures of 5-24.

Able to bowl at any stage of the innings due his ability to swing the ball with pace and placement, the Englishman is set to add versatility to the Strikers’ bowling attack.

It will be Payne’s second stint in the BBL after playing six games last summer with the Perth Scorchers, including the BBL|12 Final win, collecting 10 wickets.

Strikers Head Coach Jason Gillespie is excited to have the left-arm quick in the Strikers arsenal this summer.

“We are thrilled to have David join our squad for the upcoming BBL season,” Gillespie said.

“He is a proven performer at the highest level and will bring a wealth of experience to our team. His wicket-taking ability, skills in the field and positivity around the group will all be invaluable to our outfit.”

Payne can’t wait to get to Adelaide and is looking forward to contributing to the team’s success.

“I am excited to be joining the Adelaide Strikers and I am looking forward to the thrill of playing in front of the passionate Strikers fans at such an incredible venue in Adelaide Oval,” Payne said.

“New Year’s Eve in particular is a game with an awesome reputation and I know that is going to be a really special night to be a part of.

“I have heard nothing but great things about the Strikers and am excited to get amongst the group and hopefully building a successful season as a team.”

Payne is a replacement overseas player after Rashid Khan had to withdraw from BBL|13 due to a back injury requiring surgery.
