Cricket South Africa (CSA) proudly joins the global community in celebrating International Sports Day for Development and Peace (IDSDP), highlighting the transformative power of sports in fostering development, promoting peace, and uniting communities.

CSA’s commitment to youth development and community engagement is exemplified through its comprehensive range of development programs aimed at nurturing talent, fostering inclusivity, and promoting social cohesion through cricket.

From grassroots initiatives to elite competitions, CSA’s development programs cater to all ages and backgrounds, ensuring that cricket remains accessible and meaningful to everyone.

Among these programs are:

KFC Mini Cricket (Ages 4-12): KFC Mini Cricket is a cornerstone of CSA’s grassroots development efforts, aimed at levelling the playing field for children from all backgrounds. This program introduces cricket to youngsters, instilling in them a passion for the sport and offering equal opportunities for participation and skill development.

In Cricket South Africa’s bid to make cricket an inclusive national sport that is accessible to everyone, the organisation has also introduced mini-cricket for individuals with different abilities.

U13, U16, and U19 Cricket for Boys and Girls: Culminating at the Annual National Weeks, these age group tournaments provide a platform for young cricketers to showcase their talents, compete at a high level, and foster camaraderie among participants. These events play a crucial role in talent identification and nurturing the future stars of South African cricket.

Club Cricket: CSA’s affiliated clubs nationwide actively engage in club cricket activities, encompassing both men’s and women’s teams. By engaging in competitions such as the Community Cup and Club Championship, these clubs enhance the vibrancy of the cricketing community while fostering values of teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition. Clubs can aspire to Blue Chip status, enhancing their potential for success and impact in their communities.

CSA Hubs and Rural Cricket: These cricketing initiatives play an integral part in expanding the reach of cricket development programs to previously disadvantaged communities. By establishing hubs and organising rural cricket tournaments, CSA aims to break down barriers to participation, provide access to coaching and facilities, and unearth talent from all corners of the country.

CSA Professional Women’s Domestic League: CSA were the first affiliate in the country to professionalise women’s sports. The CSA Women’s League is designed to elevate the standards of women’s cricket and empower talented athletes. The league not only showcases thrilling on-field action but also fosters a high-performance culture, unity and security within the cricketing community.

Commenting on the significance of these initiatives, CSA Chief Executive Officer, Pholetsi Moseki, said:

“As South Africans, we have first-hand experience on how sport has the power to unite communities. Through these development programmes, CSA continues to champion for access, inclusivity, and excellence.

“On this International Sports Day for Development and Peace, we reaffirm our commitment to using cricket as a vehicle for positive change and building a brighter future for South Africa.

“As we celebrate the International Sports Day for Development and Peace, CSA extends gratitude to all stakeholders, partners, and participants who contribute to the success and impact of our development programs,” said Moseki.
