Sydney Thunder will look ahead to KFC BBL|14 with an injection of fresh talent, winning the signature of electric paceman Wes Agar for the next two seasons as part of a trade deal with the Adelaide Strikers.

Agar, who has spent the last eight years in Adelaide, heads to Sydney with 56 Big Bash appearances and 69 wickets under his belt.

The deal, which also includes the trading of draft picks between the two clubs, will see Adelaide receive Thunder’s second round pick in the BBL|14 Draft, in exchange for Agar and the Strikers’ second round selection.

A dynamic right-arm quick, Agar was named by the Strikers as their MVP for the BBL|10 season following a personal-best summer that yielded 22 wickets (at 8.35), finishing inside the top four wicket-takers in the league.

Making his first Big Bash appearance in January 2017, Agar was a part of the Strikers championship winning outfit the following summer, with the club claiming their inaugural Big Bash trophy in BBL|07.

Named the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year in 2020, the seamer made his One-Day International debut the following year during Australia’s tour of the West Indies, producing a hard-fought 41 (from 36) in his first outing in national colours.

The 27-year-old, who is currently in the UK with county side Kent, will link up with his Thunder teammates later this year.

Sydney Thunder General Manager, Trent Copeland said that Agar provides much for Thunder fans to be excited about.

“We’re so pleased to welcome Wes to Sydney Thunder” Copeland said.

“He’s a proven performer in this format and one of the Big Bash’s most likeable guys. We want to bring in players who will ultimately perform and win games for the club, but it’s also vitally important for us to attract good people who want to be apart of what we are building here.

“There is so much for our members and fans to be excited about with the future of this club and Wes is just another one of those reasons.”

Speaking about the opportunity to join the Thunder, Agar said he was thrilled to be onboard.

“I’m stoked for the opportunity to join the Thunder” Agar said.

“I’m really confident about what we can achieve this year, and I’m excited to be a part of this group. I can’t wait to get up to Sydney later in the year and get stuck in with the boys.”
