England Men’s Physical Disability team announce new coaching staff, Chris Highton and Lloyd Tennant.
England Men’s Physical Disability (PD) team have announced the appointment of Chris Highton as Head Coach and Lloyd Tennant as Assistant Head Coach.
The pair join the England Men’s PD set-up on a two-year contract, with a wealth of knowledge and experience from across the professional game.
Chris Highton has been with the Men’s PD team for 10 years, being first introduced to the side in 2014.
Currently batting coach and 2nd XI head coach at Derbyshire, Highton brings with him a wealth of knowledge around the physical disability game and the players.
Formerly a player for Leicestershire, Lloyd Tennant comes in new to the squad having spent the last four years heading up the coaching at Central Sparks.
Having previously worked at Leicestershire after his retirement from playing, Tennant has over 20 years of coaching experience in the professional game.
Highton, said: “It’s a real honour to be named Head Coach of the England Men’s Physical Disability team.
“Since being exposed to the PD environment back in 2014/15, I’ve been blown away by the extraordinary talent and truly great people involved. It’s a privilege to work in this environment.
“I’m keen to use the knowledge I have acquired in the professional game to push the players within the group to the next level and hopefully bring success in any future international series, whilst playing the game in the right way to inspire the next generation of cricketers with a disability.
“Cricket is a sport for everyone, and we have seen huge growth in the disability game, we want to continue growing the game at all levels, to create a solid foundation for the development of our national setup.”
Disability Performance Manager, Jane Powell, said: “We’re delighted to welcome two very experienced coaches to work with our men’s PD squad, the depth of knowledge and experience they will bring, having worked in the professional game for a number of years, will be of huge benefit to the squad.
“We send our heartfelt thank you’s to Ben Silver, Jack Myers and Jared Warner who did a brilliant job leading us out of the COVID-19 times. We are immensely grateful for the impact they’ve had.”
