Highton appointed as Head Coach of England’s Physical Disability Team

The England Men’s Physical Disability team has introduced a new coaching team on a two-year contract, bringing extensive expertise from the professional circuit.

Chris Highton, a stalwart member of the Men’s PD team since 2014, will spearhead the coaching staff. He is also currently head coach of Derbyshire County Cricket 2nd XI and batting coach, having been with the team for over a decade.

Chris has previously been involved with various cricket entities, including the England & Wales Cricket Board Disability Squads, Lancashire Thunder in the KIA Women’s Super League, and NW Thunder in the Rachel Heyhoe-Flint Trophy.

Furthermore, Chris has provided Performance Analysis and Coach support to several national teams, including the England Physical Disability squad during their tours to Bangladesh in 2015 and Dubai in 2016, England Deaf to Dubai in 2016, England Visually Impaired to India in 2017, India in 2018 (Tri-Series), and to UAE in 2019. He also supported England Learning Disability during their 2019 tour to Australia, as well as various international home series, such as the 2018 Physical Disability Tri-Series and the 2019 World Series.

While expressing his gratitude for the newfound responsibility, Head Coach Chris Highton said, “It’s a real honor to lead the England Men’s Physical Disability team. The talent and dedication within the squad are truly inspiring, and I am eager to use my professional experience to elevate their game to new heights and achieve success in international competitions.”
