MCC IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT HIS MAJESTY THE KING IS TO BECOME PATRON OF THE CLUB.

A letter announcing the news was sent to Lord’s this week from Buckingham Palace, marking the first anniversary of Their Majesties’ Coronation.

As well as now being the Club’s Patron, HM The King has been a Member of MCC since 1975, the year of his presidency of Lord’s Taverners and of the second MCC presidential term of his father, HRH The Prince Philip.

The late Queen was the Club’s Patron for 70 years, taking on a role occupied by her father, HM King George VI, and her grandfather, HM King George V, who first bestowed Royal Patronage on MCC in 1910.

HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The Princess of Wales were made Honorary Life Members of the Club in 2014.

“THE CLUB’S STRONG BONDS WITH THE ROYAL FAMILY ARE A SOURCE OF IMMENSE PRIDE”

Guy Lavender, Chief Executive & Secretary of MCC, said: “The Club’s strong bonds with the Royal Family are a source of immense pride, and we are thrilled to be able to share the news that His Majesty The King is to become Patron of MCC.

“Cricket is one of Britain’s most enduring exports and as a Club, we commit significant funds and resource to nurturing the game amongst young people both at home and abroad, ensuring our sport can thrive for generations to come.”
