Cricket South Africa (CSA) has congratulated the South Africa A side on a successful tour of Zimbabwe in which they won three out of four 50-overs matches and the only four-day match that was possible by a convincing margin against their Zimbabwe counterparts.

The second four-day match had to be abandoned today in view of tightened Covid-19 protocols.

“It is sad and disappointing for the players that they were not able to complete their final match but at the same time the health and well-being of all concerned is always the priority,” commented CSA Acting Chief Executive Pholetsi Motseki.

“I would like to thank Zimbabwe Cricket for all they did to make sure that the tour was able to take place and run smoothly and wish the Zimbabwe people all the best in these pandemic times.”

CSA Director of Cricket Graeme Smith expressed his satisfaction with the tour results and the objectives that had been achieved.

“Two of the main objectives are to bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket and for the players to put in performances that will enable them to bid for higher honours,” he commented.

“Ryan Rickelton scored centuries in both formats, Zubayr Hamza scored a magnificent double century in the four-day match and Sinethemba Qeshile scored his maiden first-class century. Our seam bowlers performed extremely well in the four-day match victory.”

“Well done to coach Malibongwe Maketa, our captain Zubayr, and all the players and support staff,” he concluded.
