Lions Cricket: #ThePrideOfJozi – Ready to host Jozi fans to a festive treat

For Lions Cricket, the CSA One Day Cup is so much more than cricket. It’s face-painters, jumping castles, a DJ, competitions, bands and so much off-field action that you’d be fooled into forgetting of the bat and ball battle underway out in the middle!

The festive family fun is reasonably priced too – making it even harder for fans to turn down the mouthwatering offering, with adults in at R100, scholars (u18) at R50, and parking (if needed) at R70.

With just a few hours before the first ball is bowled, Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright says they’ve tried to ensure that there’s something for everyone – cricket fanatic or not;

“True to the Lions Way, we believe we’ve gone all out ahead of this campaign. Whilst our players have been hard at work in the nets and on the field, our marketing and events team have been hard at work at their desks – tantalizing the tastebuds of our valued fans starting with our first home game on 11 December vs Rocks. On a personal level, I am particularly thrilled to see the competitions on offer – from a Cunard, fully paid, ship cruise; to return flights from Lift Airlines – there’s plenty on the go thanks to our partners wholehearted involvement. With our first game being televised, we’ve no doubt that fans will come fully dressed up and ready to grab some tv time, capture the cracking cricket and festive fun – all within the iconic DP World Wanderers Stadium.”

Whilst there’ll be plenty of laughter surrounding the iconic DP World Wanderers Stadium throughout each 50 over innings, reigning One Day Cup champions the DP World Lions will have a point to prove. The side boasts a balance between experience and youth and is certainly the Pride of Jozi far beyond the boundaries.

A solid squad for this upcoming tournament leaves Head Coach Wandile Gwavu in the favourable position of multiple match day options.

DP World Lions One Day Cup fixtures:

Upon reflection of the past four seasons, the Lions have claimed six South African domestic cricket trophies. Continuously striving to add more to the trophy cabinet, Leaf-Wright says that the Union works tirelessly to produce not only top players on the field, but great humans off it too;

“Whatever we do, we keep in mind our culture and values – and that our Pride is our pride. We are who we are because of our people – our fans, our staff, our players, our officials, our administrators and so many more. So, I urge our entire cricket eco-system, every club, every school, every supporter to come join in the fun – the players value your sideline shouting, posters, replica shirts and genuine passion for the Lions brand.”
