Malaysia Airlines has signed on as an Associate Sponsor and Official Global Airline Partner of Mumbai Indians for the upcoming IPL 2026 season. As part of the high-profile partnership, Malaysia Airlines’ logo will be prominently displayed on the right chest of the Mumbai Indians jersey.
The collaboration was celebrated in a culturally significant way, with 100 Wau Bulan kites — a symbol of Malaysian heritage — released at the venue during Makar Sankranti, India’s annual kite-flying festival. The gesture marked the fusion of two vibrant cultures and the spirit of global collaboration.
Malaysia Airlines strengthens India presence through cricket
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), emphasized the airline’s growing footprint in India.
“With 80 weekly flights connecting 10 key Indian cities, Malaysia Airlines provides seamless access to Malaysia as the gateway to Asia and beyond. Our partnership with Mumbai Indians allows us to engage fans both on the ground and in the air, combining the excitement of cricket with the warmth of Malaysian hospitality,” he said.
He added that the partnership aims to enhance tourism, deliver unique fan experiences, and showcase Malaysian culture to a global audience.
Mumbai Indians highlight shared values and global reach
A spokesperson from Mumbai Indians noted the alignment between the franchise and its new partner:
“Mumbai Indians are proud to partner with Malaysia Airlines, sharing our commitment to excellence, global spread, and meaningful fan engagement. This partnership connects our global fanbase with new travel experiences, celebrating sport, culture, and hospitality,” they said.
They also hinted at plans for storytelling and immersive fan engagement initiatives throughout the season, extending beyond matchdays.
Jayawardene: A partnership built on performance and consistency
Mahela Jayawardene, Head Coach of Mumbai Indians, welcomed the partnership by drawing parallels between elite sport and aviation:
“At Mumbai Indians, high performance has been built over time. It’s about preparation, discipline, and mindset — values Malaysia Airlines shares with us. That focus on consistency makes this association feel very natural.”
The Malaysia Airlines x Mumbai Indians tie-up reflects the growing trend of global brands leveraging the IPL’s international reach to engage new audiences and build cross-cultural connections through cricket.
