Cricket Canada is pleased to announce the formal issuance of national player contracts, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s renewed commitment to strengthening the high-performance environment for Canadian athletes.
This development represents the first time in nearly two years that national team players have received formal contracts. While these agreements should have been implemented earlier, the newly elected Board of Directors moved swiftly to address the gap and restore a professional, structured framework that prioritizes player welfare, stability, and organizational accountability.
Despite the financial challenges arising from ongoing ICC sanctions, the Board unanimously agreed that providing players with clear contractual protections and support could not be deferred. Ensuring the security, well-being, and professional integrity of national players was identified as a non-negotiable priority, even in a constrained financial environment.
As part of broader governance reforms approved at the recent Annual General Meeting, Cricket Canada also established two new Board positions: Player Representative (Male) and Player Representative (Female). In alignment with Sport Canada guidelines, theseroles are filled by former national team players and are mandated to ensure that athlete welfare, safety, and representation remain central to all Board deliberations. Their inclusion has already strengthened the organization’s ability to address player concerns and uphold modern governance standards.
