Etisalat has announced Afghan cricketers Hashmatullah Shahidi and Gulbadin Naib as its brand ambassadors for 2025. The official signing ceremony took place in the United Arab Emirates, where company executives and the two athletes marked the beginning of the collaboration.

Matthew Willsher, Chairman of Etisalat Afghanistan, highlighted the longstanding partnership between the telecommunications company and Afghan cricket. “Etisalat has been a proud sponsor of the Afghanistan Cricket Board for several years. Afghan cricketers have achieved remarkable success on the global stage, and we take pride in supporting them. Bringing Shahidi and Naib on board as brand ambassadors reaffirms our commitment to both the sport and the Afghan community,” he said.

Mohamed Osman, CEO of Etisalat Afghanistan, emphasized the alignment between the athletes’ values and the company’s mission. “Shahidi and Naib’s passion and dedication reflect what Etisalat stands for. They are the ideal representatives to showcase the human side of our brand and connect with our customers,” he noted.

As part of the event, Abdullah Gaber, Chief Commercial Officer of Etisalat Afghanistan, introduced the athletes to the company’s upcoming mobile financial services. He provided insights into the soon-to-be-launched digital payment system, available through the My Etisalat Afghanistan app. Gaber highlighted how mHawala, the company’s mobile financial service, enables seamless transactions, eliminating the need for cash and modernizing payment solutions for customers.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Shahidi shared, “I am honored to join the Etisalat family. We share the same goal of serving the people of Afghanistan and making a positive impact across the country.”

Naib echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging Etisalat’s focus on empowering Afghan communities. “Etisalat prioritizes the Afghan people in every aspect of its business. This commitment is what encouraged me to become part of this partnership,” he said.

Etisalat has been actively involved in sports sponsorship, recognizing its potential to inspire and unite communities. With the addition of Shahidi and Naib as brand ambassadors, the company aims to further strengthen its engagement with Afghan consumers.

Etisalat Afghanistan is a subsidiary of the UAE-based Etisalat Group, one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies. Since launching in Afghanistan in 2007, it has grown to serve seven million subscribers, offering extensive network coverage across the country. The company has invested over $400 million in Afghanistan and was the first telecom provider to introduce 3.75G services.
