The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the official schedule for the TATA IPL 2025 Playoffs, revealing a shift in venues and format updates due to weather and logistical considerations. After 70 thrilling league matches, the postseason action will begin on Thursday, May 29 with Qualifier 1 in New Chandigarh, and conclude with the IPL 2025 Final on Tuesday, June 3 in Ahmedabad.
New Chandigarh and Ahmedabad to host IPL 2025 knockout matches
The newly built PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh will host two critical matches: Qualifier 1 on May 29 featuring the top two teams of the league stage, and the Eliminator on Friday, May 30, involving the teams placed third and fourth.
The tournament then moves to the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket venue, for the final two matches:
- Qualifier 2 – Sunday, June 1 (between the loser of Qualifier 1 and winner of the Eliminator)
- Final – Tuesday, June 3 (winner of Qualifier 1 vs winner of Qualifier 2)
Schedule shift due to weather and logistical issues
Originally, Hyderabad and Kolkata were slated to host the IPL 2025 Playoffs. However, the IPL Governing Council revised the venues in response to weather-related disruptions and strategic operational factors.
The updated playoff structure ensures more favorable playing conditions and better preparation time for the teams involved in the business end of the tournament.
RCB vs SRH match relocated to Lucknow
In a separate venue update, Match No. 65 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has been shifted from Bengaluru to Lucknow. The decision was made due to persistent unfavourable weather conditions in the Karnataka capital.
The game will now be held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Extra hour allocated for IPL matches from May 20
To accommodate possible weather delays and ensure smooth match completion, the BCCI has introduced an additional hour of buffer time to the playing conditions for all remaining league-stage matches starting Tuesday, May 20.
Devajit Saikia, Honorary Secretary of the BCCI, confirmed these changes in an official release, reinforcing the league’s commitment to delivering a world-class cricketing spectacle for fans across the globe.
