The BCCI will convene its 95th Annual General Meeting in Mumbai on September 18, with IPL Governing Council elections, India’s representation at the ICC and a proposal to bring the Andaman & Nicobar Islands into the Board’s membership structure among the major governance matters to be considered. The meeting will take place at the BCCI headquarters from 11:30am IST, according to a report by Cricbuzz journalist Vijay Tagore.
The AGM will also address the Board’s finances, committee structure and key institutional appointments as part of an extensive agenda for the 2026 meeting.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia‘s office said in the AGM notice: “Notice is hereby given that the 95th Annual General Meeting (hereinafter referred to as “AGM”) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (“BCCI”), which will be held at BCCI Headquarters, Mumbai, on September 18, 2026 at 11:30 AM (IST), to transact the business as per the agenda annexed herewith.”
Saikia separately told PTI: “The AGM will held on September 18.”
IPL Governing Council elections form key part of AGM
Two representatives of the BCCI General Body will be elected and inducted into the IPL Governing Council at the meeting. One of the two positions includes the Governing Council Chair, a role currently held by Arun Dhumal.
A representative of the Indian Cricketers’ Association will also be inducted into the IPL Governing Council.
The election process is already under way, with Full Members required to submit applications by August 31 for their representatives to be included on the electoral roll. Validly nominated candidates are due to be announced on September 11, while the elections for the two positions are expected to be unopposed.
BCCI Electoral Officer A K Joti said in the election notice: “The Electoral Officer, BCCI hereby invites Full Members of the BCCI to submit Applications to have their respective Representatives (“Representatives”) included in the Electoral Roll for the BCCI Elections – 2026 to be held at the Annual General Meeting of the BCCI, on 18th September 2026, for the Posts specified below: A. Two (02) Elective Posts of Members of the Governing Council under Rule 28 of the BCCI Constitution.”
BCCI to decide its ICC representation
The AGM will also appoint the BCCI’s representative or representatives to the International Cricket Council and other similar organisations, placing India’s representation in international cricket governance among the meeting’s major decisions.
Beyond its IPL and international representation, the General Body will consider reports and recommendations from the Apex Council, Chief Executive Officer, BCCI committees and IPL Governing Council, with members able to provide policy directions to the relevant bodies.
The meeting will additionally consider reports from the Ombudsman and Ethics Officer, as well as the BCCI Internal Committee constituted under its Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy.
Andaman & Nicobar associate membership to be considered
Another significant governance decision concerns a proposal to grant associate membership to Cricket Association Andaman & Nicobar Island for the Union Territory. Associate status would bring the organisation within the BCCI membership structure but would not carry voting rights.
According to the Indian Express, approval would allow the BCCI to begin hosting cricket on the islands and provide facilities aimed at developing the sport. Rather than immediately introducing an Andaman & Nicobar team into the domestic structure, the plan would involve gradually developing the region before a potential future entry into BCCI competitions.
The proposal had previously been discussed by the BCCI Apex Council. There are currently 38 teams competing in the Board’s domestic tournaments.
Accounts, budget and committee appointments on agenda
The BCCI’s financial business will include consideration and adoption of its audited accounts for FY2025-26, along with the Treasurer’s Report. Members will also consider the annual budget for FY2026-27 and appoint the Board’s auditor or auditors for the financial year, including determining their remuneration.
The Secretary’s Report covering 2025-26 will also be presented, while the audited financial statements include schedules relating to tours.
A series of governance appointments will be considered as well. These include the Ombudsman and Ethics Officer, along with the Standing Committees, Cricket Committees and Umpire Committee under the relevant provisions of the BCCI Rules and Regulations.
Appointments to the Junior Cricket Committee are also expected to be confirmed. Applications have been invited for five positions, with a September 5 deadline followed by screening, shortlisting and personal interviews.
General Body to consider wider governance business
The AGM will provide Full Members with an opportunity to submit motions in accordance with the required notice period, while rules framed by the Apex Council under the BCCI Rules and Regulations will be presented for ratification.
The agenda also allows the President to introduce other business considered necessary and provides for additional informal matters with the permission of the Chairperson.
Before moving through the new business, members will consider confirmation of the minutes from the BCCI’s 94th AGM, held at its Mumbai headquarters on September 28, 2025.
The September 18 meeting will therefore bring together decisions spanning the IPL’s governance, the BCCI’s international representation, domestic membership, financial approvals and institutional appointments, with the IPL Governing Council election process already progressing ahead of the AGM.
