The Brisbane Heat’s efforts to assist Australian communities impacted by the current bushfire crisis has increased, with jerseys worn in tomorrow night’s match against the Sydney Thunder to be auctioned for the Red Cross’s Bushfire Appeal.

13 jerseys worn by the Heat’s matchday squad to face the Thunder at Spotless Stadium will all be individually signed and available to be purchased, along with jerseys signed by the club’s Australian and international representatives not playing tomorrow, including AB de Villiers, Joe Burns, Marnus Labuschagne, James Pattinson and Mitchell Swepson.

Jerseys signed by the entire Brisbane Heat BBL|09 and championship winning WBBL|05 squads are also available, with all money raised to be donated to the Red Cross.

As announced on Friday, the Brisbane Heat will match Chris Lynn’s contribution of $250 to the Red Cross of every six hit by the Heat captain during the 2019-20 Big Bash League season. The master blaster has so far hit 15 maximums for the tournament, taking the running tally for the Heat and Lynn to $7,500.

Heat sponsors CUA, Betta Home Living and Epic Pharmacy are also matching Lynn’s contribution throughout the BBL season.

Brisbane Heat General Manager Andrew McShea said the club was aiming to raise at least $10,000 from the auction.

“This jersey auction is a small gesture we can make as a club to assist those impacted by the ongoing bushfire crisis, and our hope is that it can raise a lot of money and have a positive impact for the families and communities affected.

“Our initial goal is $10,000 from the auction to go to the Red Cross, but hopefully with the generosity of our fans we can go well above this.”

All signed jerseys will have a minimum bid of $500 with money raised to be donated to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal, which will directly assist Australians impacted in the following ways.

  • Supporting people at evacuation centres and recovery hubs;
  • Providing emergency assistance to families and individuals impacted, including cash grants to people who have lost homes in these bushfires;
  • Longer-term recovery programs in disaster-affected communities;
  • Essential costs like transport, office space, finance and IT systems;
  • Psychological first aid to reduce trauma;
  • Supporting Red Cross volunteers and covering their expenses;
  • Helping families and communities prepare for disasters.
