A growing number of global brands are rethinking how they engage with cricket’s biggest audiences — and Budweiser 0.0 has made a decisive entry by betting on scale, localisation, and fan culture in one move.

The AB InBev-backed brand has partnered with five Indian Premier League franchises — Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals — marking its first-ever association with the tournament and one of the most expansive multi-team strategies seen this season.

Multi-team strategy signals scale play

Rather than aligning with a single franchise, Budweiser 0.0 has opted for a broader footprint, embedding itself across multiple markets simultaneously. The approach allows the brand to tap into diverse regional fan bases, each with distinct identities and loyalties that define the IPL ecosystem.

This multi-team alignment reflects a wider commercial trend within the league, where brands are increasingly prioritising reach and cultural relevance by activating across several franchises instead of concentrating on a single partnership.

Shift from national campaigns to city-level fandom

At the core of the strategy is a deliberate pivot from national-level cricket associations to city-driven engagement — a move designed to mirror how IPL fandom operates at its most intense level.

“Cricket is one of India’s most powerful cultural connectors, and our debut partnership with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 reaffirmed the depth of fan passion behind it. At Budweiser 0.0, we see ourselves at the forefront of culture – acting as trendsetters for evolving fan expression, shaping how young India engages with sport, and setting the tone for how it shows up today. Entering the country’s biggest T20 cricket league, a platform widely loved by Indians, is a deliberate step in this journey – taking the brand from national fandom to the heart of city fandom. Through our partnerships with these five iconic teams, we’ll celebrate the pride, traditions, and energy that define Indian cricket fandom, while creating experiences that keep fans at the heart of the game,” said Vineet Sharma, Vice President, Marketing & Trade Marketing at AB InBev India, in an official statement.

The move builds on the brand’s existing “In the Hands of Fans” platform, extending its narrative from collective national moments to the hyper-local rivalries and rituals that shape IPL engagement.

Fan engagement at the centre of activation

A key pillar of the partnerships will be fan-focused activations across host cities, designed to bring supporters closer to their teams beyond matchday broadcasts.

Budweiser 0.0 is also rolling out limited-edition merchandise linked to each of its partner franchises, offering fans new ways to express allegiance while strengthening the connection between brand, team, and supporter identity.

These initiatives are aimed at embedding the brand into match-day culture — not just as a sponsor, but as part of the wider fan experience that defines the IPL.

Strengthening position in India’s cricket economy

The IPL entry marks a significant step in Budweiser 0.0’s broader cricket strategy in India, following earlier involvement in global tournaments.

By aligning with five franchises in a single season, the brand is accelerating its presence in one of the sport’s most commercially powerful ecosystems, while positioning itself at the intersection of youth culture, sport, and entertainment.

For Budweiser 0.0, this debut season not only about entry but also about establishing a scalable model — one that leverages the league’s fragmented yet deeply passionate fan base to build long-term relevance in India’s cricket economy.
