The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel as a replacement for Vansh Bedi, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a ligament tear in his left ankle.

Urvil Patel, who represents Gujarat in domestic cricket, is known for his explosive batting. He made headlines by scoring the joint-fastest T20 century by an Indian, reaching the milestone in just 28 balls during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Tripura.

CSK bolster squad with power-hitter Urvil Patel

The 25-year-old has played 47 T20 matches, scoring 1,162 runs and showcasing a strong strike rate and attacking intent — attributes that could prove valuable for CSK as they push through the business end of the season.

Patel was part of the Gujarat Titans squad in IPL 2023 but didn’t feature regularly. With CSK now giving him a chance, the franchise hopes his domestic form can translate into impactful contributions at the highest level.

Replaces Vansh Bedi, who suffers tournament-ending injury

Vansh Bedi, a promising young player, sustained a ligament tear in his left ankle and has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. His injury prompted CSK to scout for a replacement who could offer both wicketkeeping depth and explosive batting options.

Urvil Patel has been signed for his base price of INR 30 lakh and will join the squad immediately as CSK continues its quest for playoff qualification.
