The NRMA Insurance West Test recorded a strong increase in viewing and attendance numbers as big audiences watched Australia take a 1-0 series lead against Pakistan.

Session two of day four of the West Test had a national average audience of 1.1 million on linear TV across Foxtel and the Seven Network, with streaming audiences across Foxtel Group on Kayo Sports, Foxtel Go and Foxtel Now boosting audience figures further.

The NRMA Insurance West Test linear TV ratings were up 22% on last year’s opening Test across Foxtel and the Seven Network, with streaming audiences across Foxtel Group up 43%.

The Seven Network’s coverage of the West Test reached 5.97 million Australians nationally.

The total match attendance of 59,125 was the largest for a Test Match in Perth against Pakistan. This was 40% greater than the previous record, with this year’s crowd peaking at 17,666 on day two.

Nick Hockley, Cricket Australia CEO said:

“After a wonderful lead-up to the summer, we were very excited to get the NRMA Insurance Test Series against Pakistan underway in Perth.

“The strong viewing figures again reinforced the strength of Test Cricket and Australia’s love for this format of the game.

“We have a long-term commitment to growing the West Test and were delighted to attract the highest ever attendance for a Test against Pakistan in Perth.

“Fans were treated to another great performance by the Australian Men’s Cricket Team including Nathan Lyon’s incredible 500th Test wicket.

“Thank you to those who attended and tuned in, and WA Cricket, Perth Stadium, Tourism WA and all of our partners for their support in bringing The West Test to life and we look forward to a huge crowd on Boxing Day at the MCG.”

The series now heads to Melbourne for the NRMA Insurance Boxing Day Test, where Cricket Australia and the Shane Warne Legacy have partnered to offer free heart tests around the MCG as part of a tribute to the Victorian and Australian cricket legend.
