Cricket Hong Kong is excited to announce the appointment of The Honourable Geoffrey Ma Tao-li GBM QC SC as Honorary President.

Mr Ma served as the Chief Justice of Hong Kong for over 10 years before retiring in January 2021. He is a recipient of the Grand Bauhinia Medal, the highest award under the Hong Kong honours system, awarded in recognition of a person’s lifelong and highly significant contribution to the well-being of Hong Kong.

Chairman of Cricket Hong Kong Tony Melloy says; “We are incredibly proud to welcome Geoffrey Ma as Cricket Hong Kong’s first Honorary President. Geoffrey has been an incredible servant to Hong Kong over a long and distinguished career. This service to Hong Kong combined with an infectious passion for cricket makes him the perfect person to represent one of the SARs fastest growing and most successful international sports. Cricket plays an important role in Hong Kong society and we have plans to continue growing at pace. We warmly welcome Geoffrey to the team and will value his support and guidance greatly.”

Geoffrey Ma says “I feel very privileged to be appointed as Cricket Hong Kong’s honorary president. I have been a passionate cricket fan since my school days and the opportunity to support Cricket Hong Kong to continue growing the game in the SAR is something I am very excited about. Cricket reaches into every corner of Hong Kong society and I look forward to watching at close quarters the continued positive influence cricket has in the community.”

Since introducing a new governance structure in 2019, Cricket Hong Kong has significantly expanded the number of development programmes, expanding the participant base. Participants come from across the Hong Kong community, from every ethnic group and evenly spread across male and female players. At the elite level, the representative teams are amongst the highest ranked of any Hong Kong teams in major international sport with the men’s team participating in the last two T20 World Cup tournaments.
