Cricket South Africa (CSA) governs cricket in South Africa. Formed in 2002, it succeeded the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCB) and became the sole governing body in 2008. CSA oversees all levels of cricket, including national teams for men and women, and is a full ICC member and SASCOC affiliate.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced that its long-standing commercial partnership with Momentum, title sponsor of the Proteas Women’s team, will come to a close on 30 April 2025. The conclusion marks the end of a 13-year partnership that helped transform women’s cricket in South Africa from amateur to professional status.

Driving force behind women’s cricket growth

Since joining forces with CSA in 2012, Momentum has played a pivotal role in nurturing talent, expanding visibility, and elevating the professional structure of women’s cricket in South Africa. The company’s support extended beyond the national team to pipeline programs across schools, communities, and the South Africa U19 Women’s team.

Pholetsi Moseki, CEO of CSA, paid tribute to the impact of the partnership: “We express our sincere appreciation for the efforts Momentum made to empower our female cricketers and young talent over the years. Their commitment to women’s cricket has been exemplary.”

“This partnership has enabled the advancement of women’s cricket in South Africa, leading to strong and globally competitive Proteas Women’s teams. We wish Momentum continued success as we conclude this chapter.”

From amateur to professional: a legacy of change

Momentum’s involvement has been a cornerstone of transformation for the Proteas Women. The team now features a full roster of contracted players, alongside dedicated support staff, coaches, and medical professionals—an infrastructure that was unthinkable prior to the sponsorship.

Nontokozo Madonsela, Chief Marketing Officer of Momentum Group, reflected proudly on the journey:

“We are exceptionally proud to have been instrumental in the professional advancement of women’s cricket in South Africa. From amateur to professional, we’ve enhanced the team’s visibility and commercial value, helping them reach new heights.”

“Our journey may have come to an end, but our love of cricket, our support of the Proteas, and the legacy of what we have achieved together will remain one of our proudest achievements.”

Momentum’s impact extends beyond the boundary

Throughout the 13-year partnership, Momentum supported a wide range of cricket development initiatives, including boys’ and girls’ school programs, community outreach, and high-performance training structures. Their contributions have laid a solid foundation for the next generation of South African cricketers.

“Momentum is confident that the foundations laid during this partnership have inspired a new generation and sparked enthusiasm among fans and women,” Madonsela concluded.

As the partnership concludes, both CSA and Momentum move forward with a shared legacy that reshaped the landscape of women’s cricket in South Africa and set a benchmark for future commercial collaborations in the sport.
