CT 2025: PCB responds to controversy by raising Indian flag at Karachi National Stadium

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has frequently made headlines for controversies, particularly surrounding India’s refusal to travel to host nation Pakistan due to security concerns and the ongoing renovation work at the tournament’s three Pakistani venues.

A fresh controversy arose when reports suggested that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had not hoisted the Indian flag at any of its venues. This move was perceived by some as retaliation against the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for refusing to send the Indian team to Pakistan.

However, a recent PCB statement on social media platform X has seemingly put the matter to rest, confirming that an Indian flag has now been raised at Karachi’s National Stadium ahead of the opening game between Pakistan and New Zealand.

According to First Post, the social media post emphasized Pakistan’s sportsmanship and also noted that Pakistani authorities had granted visas to seven Indian journalists for the tournament.

A PCB source had previously clarified that flags at the three Pakistani venues were being hoisted based on the teams playing there rather than displaying all eight competing nations. This rationale explains why the Indian flag was initially absent, as India will play all its matches in Dubai, including potential knockout games. Similarly, the Bangladeshi flag is only visible in Rawalpindi and not in Lahore or Karachi.

India’s entire Champions Trophy campaign, including the semi-finals and final (should they qualify), is set to take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The first semi-final is scheduled for March 4 in Dubai, while the venue for the final will be determined after the conclusion of the group stage or semi-finals. If India does not make it to the final, the championship match will be held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, which was originally designated as the final’s host venue.

With the Indian flag now displayed at Karachi’s National Stadium, the PCB appears to have diffused tensions, allowing the focus to return to the much-anticipated tournament.
