CT 2025: Gaddafi Stadium gets moat to prevent pitch invasions

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has extended the deadline for completing reconstruction work at Gaddafi Stadium to February 2.

According to Dawn, a PCB spokesperson stated that while most of the work had been completed by Thursday, the final touches would require an additional ten days. The initial deadline was January 25.

The PCB reported that chair installation at the stadium is in its final stages. One digital screen has been installed, and work on the second is ongoing. Additionally, the six floodlight poles, equipped with new bulbs, have been fully completed.

The revamped Gaddafi Stadium, along with the National Bank Stadium in Karachi and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, will host matches for the eight-nation ICC Champions Trophy, starting February 19.

According to the PCB, the stadium will also be ready to host a tri-nation ODI series featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand, scheduled for the second week of February.

Reconstruction work at the venue began on October 10 last year. Reports indicate that some portions of the PCB’s offices will be completed later, as the current focus is on preparing the stadium for upcoming matches.

The Gaddafi Stadium, which also serves as the PCB headquarters, has been cleared by the ICC to host Champions Trophy matches. However, the PCB allocated a substantial budget of Rs12.80 billion for upgrading the three venues, starting work only four months ago. Reconstruction at Gaddafi Stadium has been ongoing in three shifts to meet the deadlines.
