Google’s IPL 2025 ‘Googly’ campaign features Sourav Ganguly in playful twist

Sourav Ganguly, former India captain and ex-BCCI President, has teamed up with Google for a creative and entertaining campaign titled ‘Gangooglie’, which has quickly become a viral sensation during the IPL 2025 season.

The campaign brings Ganguly’s legendary on-field charisma into the digital world, blending humor with utility as it showcases how Google Search can make everyday queries more fun and informative. “The ‘Gangooglie’ campaign, which has gone viral ever since it’s gone on air a few days back, will run for six months. It’s a short-term endorsement by all the cricketers involved for the time being,’’ said Taniya Bhattacharya, operations head of Ganguly’s portfolios and commercial interests.

More than just a promotional effort, the Gangooglie initiative is being widely praised for its relatable concept and execution. “The concept resonated strongly with audiences and even drew praise from Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who appreciated the fun and educational twist the campaign brings to daily searches,” Bhattacharya shared.

While the campaign reflects Ganguly’s sporting charm, it also marks a strategic step in repositioning his public persona beyond cricket. “The thought process behind this is to position Ganguly as a thought leader— not just in sport but also in areas like leadership, organisational change and even socio-economic development through sports,” Bhattacharya added.

Currently endorsing 38 brands — two international and 36 pan-India — Ganguly’s influence continues to expand. But it’s not limited to cricket endorsements anymore. “At this juncture, we are trying to increase the bandwidth to non-cricketing events outside India — an example being a supply chain talk in Dubai earlier this week. His participation in such business-focused events allows him to be seen as a strategic thinker,” Bhattacharya noted.

Behind the scenes, Ganguly’s team is crafting a broader narrative, showcasing qualities that transcend sports: leadership, discipline, and the ability to perform under pressure. “The narrative that we are trying to build around Ganguly is to bring in the element discipline, strategic execution and leading under pressure — skills that resonate across industries,” Bhattacharya emphasized.

As the Gangooglie campaign continues to gather momentum throughout the IPL season, Ganguly is not only making a digital impact but also reinforcing his evolving identity as a dynamic, multi-industry leader.
