More than one million ticket applications have been submitted for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 in less than three days, delivering a major early indicator of demand for the tournament across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
More than 320,000 fans registered for the ballot after it opened on October 1, with the India-Pakistan group-stage fixture on October 10 emerging as the most sought-after match. The tournament will feature 14 teams and run from October 2 to November 21.
India fixtures dominate early demand
India’s biggest matches have generated the strongest response during the opening phase of the ballot, with more than 100,000 applications submitted for the October 10 meeting with Pakistan.
South Africa’s fixture against India ranks second with more than 86,000 applications, followed by India-Australia at more than 80,000.
India and Pakistan could also meet during the next phase of the competition. Their pre-seeded Super 7 fixture on November 7 has attracted almost 75,000 applications, placing it fourth among the matches with the highest demand so far.
Interest extends beyond those marquee fixtures, with almost 65,000 applications already submitted for the November 21 Final.
ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta said in an ICC media release: “One million ticket applications in just over 48 hours of opening the ticket ballot is a demonstration of the attention, stature and affiliation for ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. ICC events are now spectacles which transcend cultural and geographic boundaries and serve as platforms to widen and deepen fandom for the sport.”
Ticket strategy targets broader access
The early application numbers come as organisers use a wide pricing structure designed to offer different routes into the tournament.
Tickets range from US$9.62 at entry level to US$31.31 for the highest-tier matches. The ticketing programme also includes family bundles, dedicated student and pensioner pricing, early-bird allocations for local supporters, and group pricing for community clubs and schools.
Fans entering the ballot can select the matches they want to attend across all three host countries, with registrations remaining open until 23:59 CAT on November 21.
World Cup puts Africa back on the global stage
The 2027 edition will bring a marquee ICC men’s event back to Africa after a two-decade absence, placing South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia at the centre of one of cricket’s largest global events.
Gupta added: “This is also Africa’s moment to shine as an ICC marquee men’s event is returning to the continent after two decades and brings with it the attention of 2.5 billion cricket fans across 120+ countries. We aim to ‘make the circle bigger’, for fans, for the athletes, for the game, and for communities who will gather to celebrate the competition and the culture. The ballot is open, and we can’t wait to host the world so get in if you haven’t already.”
The first ball of the World Cup is scheduled for October 2, with the competition culminating in the Final on November 21. With the ballot remaining open until that date, supporters still have time to register and submit their match selections.
