Tata Motors rewards champions with exclusive Tata Sierra SUVs

India’s women cricketers continue to bask in recognition  following their landmark win at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. In one of the most high-profile tributes yet, Tata Motors announced that each member of the victorious squad will receive the first batch of its soon-to-be-launched Tata Sierra SUV, including the top-end variant of the vehicle.

“Legend Meets Legends. Celebrating the Indian Women’s Cricket Team and their legendary ICC Women’s World Cup performance, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles proudly presents each member of the team with the Tata Sierra – a bold, versatile, and timeless legend,” Tata Motors said in a statement on X.

The gesture comes as the company prepares to relaunch the iconic Sierra on November 25, marking a symbolic handover of a new era — in both Indian cricket and the auto industry. The redesigned Sierra has been framed as a modern tribute to enduring legacy, much like the team it now celebrates.

Indian team meets the President and Prime Minister

The celebrations extended beyond sponsorship and sporting accolades. The Indian women’s cricket team was honoured by President Droupadi Murmu at the Presidential residence, Rashtrapati Bhavan, on Thursday. During the visit, captain Harmanpreet Kaur presented the President with a jersey signed by the full squad and also displayed the World Cup trophy.

“Members of the Indian Women Cricket team, winner of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President congratulated the team and said that they have created history and have become role models for younger generation,” read a message from the official handle of the President of India on X.

“She said that this team reflects India. They represent different regions, different social backgrounds, different circumstances but they are one Team – India.”

A day earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the players to his official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi. The team, dressed in formal attire and proudly wearing their winner’s medals, met with the Prime Minister in a closed-door ceremony.

Emotional closure for Pratika Rawal, thanks to a teammate’s selfless gesture

One of the most talked-about moments of the celebrations came from the quiet resilience of Pratika Rawal, India’s young opening batter who was ruled out of the tournament mid-way due to injury. Despite being one of India’s leading run-scorers — with 308 runs, including a century and a half-century — Rawal was originally left without a winner’s medal because she was replaced in the final squad.

During the photo-op with Prime Minister Modi, Rawal was seen wearing a medal — leading to speculation that the ICC had bent its own rulebook. However, it was later confirmed that the medal was loaned to her by teammate Amanjot Kaur, a heartwarming act that underscored the solidarity of the squad.

Rawal, visibly emotional during the celebrations, expressed her feelings after the win.

“I can’t even express what I feel. This flag on my shoulder means everything. To be here with my team — it’s surreal. Injuries are part of the game, but I’m just happy I could still be part of this incredible journey,” she said.

Reflecting on the challenges of watching from the sidelines, she added, “To be very honest, it was very difficult for me to sit down and watch the match because it’s actually very difficult. It’s very easy to play inside rather than watching from the outside. But seeing this energy, seeing this environment, it just gave me goosebumps. Whenever there was a wicket, whenever there was a sixer, you know, you can see the energy. It’s amazing. The energy, the emotion — it was incredible. We did it for India.”

A new era for women’s cricket in India

With their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title, the Indian team has inspired celebrations not just from fans and sponsors, but also from national institutions. Tata Motors’ gesture, the recognition by the country’s top leaders, and the viral moment surrounding Pratika Rawal’s medal all highlight the cultural shift surrounding women’s sport in India.

As Indian cricket enters a new phase, the legacy of this title run — both on and off the field — is already leaving an indelible mark on the nation.
